Judge Curiel Rejects Trump Request to Ban Campaign Statements from Fraud Trial

During a Thursday hearing on the Trump University fraud trial, Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel rejected a broad request from The Donald to bar campaign statements made during the presidential election from consideration. The 45th president-elect may renew objections on a case-by-case basis when specific evidence is discussed during the impending Nov. 8 trial, Curiel said in San Diego. Trump had also asked to ban campaign speeches, tweets, statements by campaign surrogates, other litigation, comments about the case, tax issues, and statements at debates. Curiel, whom Trump attacked for his Mexican descent during early hearings, also denied those requests.
