there's an explanation for this: most of them aren't christians in the first place. at least in any sense i recognise.
their most prominent leaders are right wing sales people who use the bible to give themselves a righteous clothing and to deliver an income. i have no doubt they can also concoct from the biblical text support for the second amendment if they are asked! easy to do politics by selective reading of verses in the bible.
the concept of setting aside your property, loving your enemy, humility, turning the other cheek - these aren't things i associate with the evangelical leaders i have seen in the us.
if there are such people, they avoid the political sphere. motes, eyeballs and suchlike, maybe.
the mormons have shown more bottle.
