Dodgers Star Protests Trump Hotel Stay

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez refused to stay in the Trump International Hotel in Chicago when his team was there this season for a four-game series with the hometown Cubs. And for the first two games of the National League Championship Series against the same team, the Dodgers did not stay in the Trump hotel. “I didn’t stay there,” Gonzalez, who is Mexican-American, said. “I had my reasons.” But he declined to specifically name Donald Trump and his candidacy for president as the reason why. “We’re here to play baseball not talk politics,” he added. Throughout the campaign, Trump has used inflammatory rhetoric when talking about Mexico and immigrants. He has pledged to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico, called Mexican immigrants “rapists” and “murderers,” and attacked an American judge based on his Mexican ancestry.
