Where I worked (before I retired), since we were a large multinational corporation, our servers were under almost continuous assault 24/7. It's the price we pay for being connected to the world, ans the world can be a very scary place at times.
Attempts to hack means fishing emails were received by the server, just like all the fishing emails that pop up on anyone's email about resetting passwords, sending checks to someone who had all their stuff stolen while on vacation, and attempts to have you send money in order to receive your million dollar award.
