Brad Ashford can hardly be described as being a 'Democrat'. He started his political career back in Omaha as a Republican on the city-council. Then when he decided to run for the state legislature he switched to being a Democrat because his district traditionally voted Blue. However, once elected, he switched back to being a Republican. During this time he also tried to run for Congress as a Republican but never made it past the primaries. So in 2013 he switched back to being a Democrat and finally made it to Washington, where he's voted with other 'Blue-Dog' Democrats.

When Brad Ashford sees Hillary Clinton coming, he’s going to run the other way.

The Nebraska Democrat congressman is one in a growing group of liberals that are avoiding being seen with their nominee for president.

Ashford stuttered and stammered when he was asked by a local TV station if he was going to campaign with Clinton.

“I, I’m not going to campaign with her,” he promised KMTV.

“I really, I, I, I, I, that’s not my, my, my role, uh, at all, uh,” he said. “I don’t believe — my responsibility is to work directly with my constituents,” he said, seemingly groping for words.

Ashford is the only Democrat elected to Congress from Nebraska.
