Corrupt “Trump Foundation” caught bribing public official who was investigating Donald Trump
By Daily News Bin | August 23, 2016
Donald Trump really, really wants you to focus on the Clinton Foundation. He keeps making unfounded accusations that the charitable entity is somehow corrupt on behalf of his opponent Hillary Clinton, even though he’s provided no evidence. But that may merely be an attempt at deflection on his part, as it turns out his own Trump Foundation engaged in actual corruption – and it did so in a manner which was arguably aimed at influencing the outcome of the election.
Even as the Trump University scam heads to civil court and remains a key scandal for Donald Trump in the 2016 election, it turns out the Trump Foundation tried to pay off one of the public officials who was investigating the matter. It donated $25,000 to the political campaign of Pam Bondi, the Florida Attorney General who had been tasked at the time with investigating Trump University’s illegal actives within the state.
Not only was it a blatant attempt at paying off a public official in order to make an investigation go away, it was also a violation of the law regarding charitable groups. Trump Foundation wouldn’t have been legally allowed to make a donation to a political candidate under any circumstances, let alone under such corrupt circumstances.
The Trump campaign made the scandal go away in a legal sense by blaming it on a series of “coincidences and errors” while claiming that the donation to Bondi was supposed to have come directly from Donald Trump himself, and not from his charitable foundation.
Bondi never did lift a finger to look into Trump University, which has since turned out to be a scam from top to bottom, and is headed to court this fall in a different jurisdiction. Since the time that Donald Trump paid off Bondi, she has endorsed Trump for President and become a surrogate of his campaign.
So even as Donald Trump continues to encourage the public to look closely at the Clinton Foundation without providing any substantive reason as to why the entity should be viewed with skepticism, it turns out his own Trump Foundation actually committed crimes. Not only did it violate the law which says charitable foundations can’t donate to political campaigns, it also blatantly bribed a public official who was investigating Trump at the time.
