hi clo,
i am not as against vetting as you are. i see no reason for the us to ingest immigrants who are hostile to its values. changing the country is the job of those who are already invested in it. if you plan to emigrate to the us, i think it isn't onerous to ask that you should plan to participate in its culture to a fair degree. and to accept its political architecture. even, perhaps, to offer new perspectives, so long as they are constructive or well meaning.
heck, i put on a losers' party every fourth of july and my american visitors return each year to remind me how badly we lost. while drinking the english summer cocktails i prepare for them. the subtle banter is always fun. i don't suppose trump is targetting people like me.
but creating the test questions will be difficult. for instance, a person who says they reject various terms of the constitution may be hostile, or they may be thoughtful. there are conflicts of interpretation, as we all know. and time degrades the most robust wisdoms. also, the most hostile people are the most likely to lie.
