Many of you know my elderly father lives about 35 miles away from me and that mom died around this time last year.

He also is in the middle stages of dementia..

I am the primary power of attorney for him with my brother next. We live close together, within 4 miles.

The other siblings are out of state.

I took my father to the doctor the other day because I noticed he had developed a cough AND he was sleeping abnormally long periods of time... for him.

The doctor who has been his doc for 26 years examined him and felt around in his abdominal region as well.

Dad's eyes were somewhat yellowish. Doc turned his head toward me suddenly and said, that's not good.
There is a large mass here and it was not here last month when we did his normal 3 month checkup.

So, off we went to have blood drawn and orders for x-rays and a CT Scan.

I got a call directly from the doctor the next morning at 8:00 a.m. He said his suspicions were confirmed by the results of the blood tests.
Cancer. Fast growing apparently.

We will have to wait till next week for the cat scan as the hospital must get permission from the insurance company but this would explain a loss of appetite, and lots of sleeping. Like around 18 hours a day.

SO, maybe this will be a blessing of the cancer takes him quickly and he will not have a protracted long death by Alzheimers/dementia. I am sure he would prefer it that way as well.

ANYWAY, that was how my week went.....

Hope yours was better....
