Hillary Clinton calls on nation to stand together, reject violence after BR police shooting
UPDATED 4:55 PM CDT Jul 17, 2016

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton called the shooting of several law enforcement officers in Baton Rouge a "devastating assault."

Clinton issued the statement Sunday in response to the six officers who were shot. Three of them were killed and three were injured.

Officials said the officers are members of the Baton Rouge Police Department and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office.

None of the officers have officially been identified.

"Today's devastating assault on police officers in Baton Rouge is an assault on all of us. There is no justification for violence, for hate, for attacks on men and women who put their lives on the line every day in service of our families and communities," Clinton said.

The former secretary of state said Americans must not turn their backs on each other or be indifferent. She called on people to stand together to reject violence and help strengthen communities.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of the police officers who were killed and injured today," she said.
