I can't see myself using a handpump to water acres of land.

...that's why God gave ya a wife. She's spozed to pump the water and raise the crops and the kids and fix supper in a timely manner whilst the men sit around thinking noble thoughts.

There's plenty of water, but it's all below me. How do I use it if the electricity goes out? That's the question.

I can't see myself using a handpump to water acres of land. I could probably use gas and a generator, but even that's more dependent on "the grid" than I'd like to be.

Maybe I could do something like digging a pond well up the field, then controlling runoff from even further up so that the pond quickly refills when it rains. That might enable me to meet my water needs without having to burn gas or use electricity.
