De,
I'm thinking that the frame was made of welded metal . . .
(It might have been lunber) . . . But, the 'planking'
was all duct tape as was the sail.

I liked that show.
Zim.

re: "Ya might want to get some duct tape too. I dunno what ya could use it for in the woods"

Duct tape is wondrous stuff.

I saw an episode of Naked & Afraid where the guy brought duct tape as his survival item. He made the girl a bra and some underwear for them both right off. Then he made sandals so they could walk across a thorny field. He made hammocks, so the bugs and snakes couldn't get at them at night. He made bags for hauling things, including water. He made cordage by just twisting long pieces of tape.

I don't know if you can boil water in a duct-tape bag, but I wouldn't be too surprised. Lots of things that you think will burn won't if they hold water.

Later in the show, I think tape was used to bind logs together to make a raft. I might be confusing N&A with another show, though. There was definitely an episode of Mythbusters where the guys made an entire sailboat out of duct tape and sticks, then took it out on San Francisco Bay as a proof of concept. It worked fine. And I've seen tape used on shelters to hold the frame and "shingles" in place, and to patch leaks.
