this video is another reason i don't identify with identity politics. it's often balderdash-over-easy designed for people determined to be offended.

we need to move to a period in which people are offended instead by egg-shell offense nazis. this way the people who have a real and substantial grievance can be comforted, rather than the wannabes.

....ah, the youth.

a video has appeared in which a young black woman assails a young white man for wearing dreadlocks.

her reason. cultural misappropriation. or what used to be called cultural synthesis.

the claim must be that there is a thing called cultural purity and that borrowing features of someone's culture is a type of theft.

so a white man may not wear a rastafarian hairstyle.

and therefore a rastafarian should not wear dreads because that hairdo was inspired by the nazarites in the bible.

in fact, no one should be wearing dreadlocks as these feature in the statues of ancient greece and that culture is extinct.

for that matter, the assyrians wore bushy beards, so to heck with those hipsters. let's go full on misopogon.

either this, or perhaps we ought to recognise the compliment - and not the insult - of cross-cultural adoption. and perhaps the value of synthesis, which is how much great art has emerged.

heck, if you wanna be an offense nazi, why not invent your own citadel of purity rather than misappropriating someone else's egg-shell ideals.

would have enjoyed being in that age group for the fun of the arguments with such ninnies.
