Michael Bloomberg won’t run for president, fearing a Donald Trump victory. Here’s a look inside the campaign that wasn’t.

In his announcement Monday, Michael R. Bloomberg cited his fear that a three-way race could lead to the election of a candidate who would imperil the security and stability of the United States: Donald J. Trump.
The decision by Mr. Bloomberg ends months of intensive preparation for a candidacy. His closest aides had set up the machinery for a long-shot billion-dollar campaign, covertly assembling a network of strategists and staff members, conducting polling in 22 states, drafting a website, producing television ads and setting up campaign offices in two states.
