I got my first rifle, a single shot .22, when I was nine years old, but then that would not have been illegal in Iowa, even today, prior to this new law.

The new law allows children to OWN and POSSESS HANDGUNS and there is no age limit in the bill. Technically it would be legal for a 2 year old to be in possession of a loaded handgun as long as an adult was in the near vicinity.
