after spending hundreds of millions of pounds, the team is clearly worse than it was three years ago.
how can you spend that much and end up with worse players?
usually there is a close correlation between the team's compensation and its results.
but man utd is spending money like water - it's commercial operation churns out income so it can afford it for the moment - and getting little back on the playing field.
massive incompetence somewhere in the set-up. two managers with excellent historical records, with the same dire result. so that probably isn't the problem.
i think it is the ceo. commercial skillset but rubbish at football. people see that he will overpay for players and so they sell him fool's gold. man utd appears to have a team of well-paid superstars, whereas in fact, they aren't all that. top-notch players rarely change teams these days.
looks to me like they need to redo half of the team and have someone canny to make the purchases. but it will take several seasons to complete the job.
