Re: Republicans are now claiming that Obama is simply using the death of Justice Scalia as an excuse to "pack the court", like FDR tried in the 30's, which is a load of crap.

I heard on the radio tonight that some Senate Republicans are now proposing that if Obama really wants to nominate someone to replace Justice Scalia that he should ONLY be allowed to select someone from a shortlist prepared ahead of time by the Senate of people whom they would give favorable consideration to. They claim that this would better fulfill the concept of 'Advice and Consent' in that Obama would still be the one actually picking the final name, but that it's really the responsibility of the Senate leadership to create the shortlist in the first place. They've somehow convinced themselves, or at least they're going to try and convince the general public, that this is how our Founding Fathers actually meant for the system to work.

OH YEA, I can just see how the Right-wing media would have reacted if the Senate Democrats had tried something like that with a Ronald Reagan or a George W. Bush.
