As long as there are for-profit insurance companies you do NOT want to allow them to sell across state borders. Because all it would take is for one state to grant concessions to the insurance industry and then they would all flock to that state and set-up business there and then use those rules to dictate the price and level of service given to people in the other states. That's what happened with the credit card industry. Why do you think virtually all credit card companies issue their cards from South Dakota. Because they allow them to charge up to 29% interest if they wanted to.
