Facebook is banning private sales of guns on its flagship social network and on its Instagram photo-sharing service, the company said late Friday.

President Obama, state attorneys general and gun safety groups had increased pressure on the company to stop the flow of Facebook posts and Instagram messages offering guns for sale, often without background checks
