hi tkc,

the word i use for obama is fastidious. never wants to dirty his fingernails. being a leader means you may get to choose the sort of dirt you dig in, but you have to do some digging in a dirt-covered world. obama almost looks offended by the need to do so.

bernie suffers from much the same problem. he speaks as if we can have the nice things and we should just ignore the unpleasant ones. this way he avoids discussing the difficult challenges he will face.

hillary is more pragmatic but follows rather than leads too much (witness her dependence on polling - who knows what she believes these days other than first woman president). maybe the bernie challenge will push her off the fence.

on the other hand, with the gop field, you get folks who appear to want to make difficult choices. unfortunately they look likely to choose the wrong ones in almost every scenario anyone asks them about.

oy vey. looking forwards, hc is the best of a bad bunch. the hope is that the us survives this ugly choice and 2020 brings a stronger slate.

Hi Clo, of course the "wall" is BS but as a metaphor for boarder security it is real. It is an effective vote getting ploy. The point is the GoP doesn't want boarder security and the Dems need to take that phoney baloney issue away from them. I agree the "I 9" is not a significant detriment to crooks that hire illegals w/o sufficient enforcement, which would be cost prohibitive. There is a similarity to the gun control issue. Dems have become too nice (Obama is the "poster child"), politics ain't bean bag and the GoP uses nukes like swift boating, whitewater and Willie Horton. I remember when Dems were tough and fought. Today they believe being intellectually correct on issues is enough. It's not; too many American voters are not smart, are uninformed or easily misinformed. A perfect example is the misconception that the GoP is better at managing the country's finances, that the U.S. economy performs better under their leadership. Of course the opposite is true but the dems allow that misconception to stand largely unrefruted. Do you remember how the Senate minority fillibustered anything and everything during Obama's 1st term when the Dems controlled the House? Then when they controlled the House they did nothing but vote to repeal Obamacare. I know I'm a bit hyperbolic. Decades ago that is the way the Dems worked. Not now, now they play fair. The Dems need a Rayburn or Johnson to lead, conspire and fight.
