The worry is that the Democrats deny the problem exists and the Republicans deliver a solution that's over the top.
Maybe this was always the way.
Define the problem with Islam: it ain't the religious bit of the religion, it's the politics and the law that goes with it. As well as the violence.
Solve the problem with Islam: by all means worship Allah, but don't expect to get away with promoting a religious sort of politics and law while expecting your views to be treated with either silence or sweet deference. You don't get to promote divinely-inspired law and hierarchy in a secular space without a robust push-back. Western law evolves. We vote. We believe what we like. We do science and go whence it leads. That's just the way we roll.
As regards terrorism, if you are planning it, your philosophy bears only the first syllable in violence even if your actions procure the whole word.
