At any rate, I guess I would be in the tolerant crowd if it wasn't for polls like this. It is a far nicer place to be - to imagine everyone can be friendly and peaceful and respectful of one another.

But if the evidence tells you something different, then you have to face up to what it says. If you don't, you become a well-meaning propagandist and not a truth-teller. The same problem witnessed in the discussion of hopeful but unrealistic business ideas!

No country can absorb a minority that has this many people who justify violence against their fellow citizens. If you know this, then you cannot close your eyes. You have to make tough choices.

Not the choices that Trump makes. But choices that seek to winnow out the bad actors, that require a form of Islam which respects the secular model of government and the rights of others to believe different things. If you cannot achieve these things, then the only choices left are more extreme - and in that category I include ignoring the problem.

This also has nothing to do with Islam.

"Out of 600 American Muslims, 25 percent expressed agreement with the statement, “Violence against Americans here in the United States can be justified as part of the global jihad,” according to a 2015 poll produced for the Center for Security Policy."
