Good Morning DG!
Man of course is not the "problem". Although, man must definitely be the solution.
Scientific American picked up the study from Science Magazine, and is a whole lot shorter and understandable.

There is no politics to this. It is clear, easy to understand scientific observation.
It is rather obvious to most of the governments of Earth that those activities which degrade the planet must be reduced, and if possible in some way remediated.
Children around the world were getting dosed with Strontium because of nuclear testing. Japanese were getting dosed with Mercury and Lead from inland fishing. Lakes in upstate New York were being oxygen depleted by Acid Rain created by discharge from power plants in the MidWest. DDT was destroying bird shells all over the world. etc.,etc.,etc.
That man has had a huge impact on the planet is academic. You don't have to be erudite to understand that when folks upstream piss in the river, that those downstream are drinking piss.
Science is about smelling the roses.
