From the January 6, 2016, Montmorency County Tribune

Predictions for 2016

Predictions for 2016 include advances in
technology, political party nominees, a
medicine that slows the progression of
Alzheimer’s and a rise in oil prices.
Dan Tynan, Editor in Chief for Yahoo!
Tech, expects Apple to release Apple
Watch 2.0 in the spring and iPhone 7 in
the fall. The new phone is rumored to
include a fingerprint sensor, wireless
charging, multiple cameras and a USB-C
port instead of power or headphone jacks.
He predicts antidrone technology will
be on the rise with companies developing
antidrone technology of nonballistic
methods of ridding flight zones of drones.
The number of devices and services using
artificial intelligence will increase, Tynan
says, with companies focusing on selfrunning
programs and business decisions
possibly being made without human
intervention.

Editors of Fortune Magazine predict
breakthroughs in transportation, including
affordable hoverboards and self-driving
cars. In the next year, California is
expected to draft the first set of consumer
rules for autonomous driving, and Japan
might be the first to sideline the human
driver, entirely, with a venture called Robot
Taxi.

Sen. Marco Rubio will emerge as the
GOP nominee, according to the editors,
and he will tap Gov. Nikki Haley, South
Carolina, as his running mate. They also
contend Hillary Clinton will represent the
Democratic Party with Sen. Tim Kaine,
Virgina, as her running mate.

They predict six states, including Michigan,
will legalize marijuana, and they
point out the latest Gallup poll reflects 58
percent of Americans support legalization.
The editors maintain a medicine that
slows the progression of Alzheimer’s will
pass muster in clinical tests and be will on
its way to Food and Drug Administration
approval by year’s end as a therapy for
mild Alzheimer’s.

Oil prices are expected to climb to $55
per barrel by the end of the year, but oil
exploration companies have indicated
$60 per barrel is closer to what it will take
to instill confidence and encourage the
launch of new projects and increases in
staffing.

Perhaps the most unusual predictions
for 2016 come from Nostradamus, the 16th
century French philosopher. According
to Nostradamus, President Barack
Obama will be America’s last president,
and a northern king from Aquilon (an allusion
to Russia) will eventually help to
right the wrongs, whatever that means.
