And if you had read the item I referenced you will see that that's exactly what the 2nd Amendment does; it prevented the federal government from taking over the state militias, which in the South were almost exclusivly used to keep the slaves in line.
The fear was that the abolitionists in the North, where the population far exceeded that of the South, would eventually pass laws putting the state militias under the control of Washington and so the 2nd Amendment was proposed to the protect the STATE's right to control them. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with protecting the rights of individual to own arms but rather to preserve the right of the states to keep and maintain a "well regulated militia". That was all that it was trying to accomplish, keep the federal government away from those institutions created solely to protect the white slave owners and to make sure that there was no uprising by the Blacks, who in many parts of the South, outnumbered the Whites by a significant number.
