"But who can they lull into an alliance?" Clearly it's less educated white men. They have the racist south as a result of democratic leadership and passage of civil rights laws. They also have "thumpers" who have a proven susceptability to less than rational influence. So thus far polls suggests the "new" GOP wishes to continue to attract those less capable of the absorbtion of fact/ truth, those more easily persuaded by any fear potentially perceived as detrimental to them. They always have had the majority of the very wealthy - a small but disproportionantly influencial group. So appleal to stupid white guys, "cut the tax on the rich and we'll invest that money in new businesses that will create jobs." That " trickle down" crap still sells. Oh, you unemployed few that may actually vote, we'll seal the boarders so those illegals won't steal anymore of your jobs (lol, wink/wink). The smart rich very small minority convince the not so smart majority, it's in their interest (which the opposite is the truth) to vote for them.

Strikes me that Trump is drawing out what is possibly unfairly described as the politics of the South.

At any rate, the Republicans captured that group from the Democrats several decades ago. And now they are expressing themselves again, although oddly through the medium of a New York billionaire.

So the conservatives can't ride that horse to victory any more. They must be thinking about a new coalition, having previously cobbled together a group that included Evangelicals and rebel yellers and found it all went South.

But who can they lull into an alliance? Their philosophy simply doesn't have a pluralist appeal.
