I just discovered him yesterday and thought you might find him interesting.

Ben Sasse on Senate Floor: We Are at War with Militant Islam

I am campaigning for Rand by the way.

I realize he has no chance of getting the nomination.

I will look up some of his writings from here. I absorb better that way. But you've found an interesting politician there. Just shows how useful it is to have someone who isn't an attorney in the room.

His choices of senator were interesting ones, as well.

Encouraging to see such a person emerging in the Republican Party. He looks a far more substantial person than all of the GoP presidential candidates on the slate.

Reviewing his resume, I would say he has been building towards a presidential candidacy since before he went to college. Everything slots into building experience for later use on a grand scale. And that kind of narrow ambition may mean he has a weakness.

Being a Reaganista is a bit expected. I wonder if he will be supportive of real Reagan, or the fantasy one of the modern GoP. I don't see any training in economics in his background. A little bit of commerce, though. Therefore, I expect the usual market idolatry.

In general, his knowledge of history looks rather Americacentric, which is relevant, of course, but also means he may lack an external perspective in place and over time. But rather some knowledge than the usual application of the Nazi label to any disagreement.

Of course, being a GoPer, many of his policy positions are bound to suck! But maybe he will evolve. :-)
