I still have the iron sights on my carbine, but it's been awhile since I've had it out to a range. We used to have a public range just a few miles from our house, up near the coastal foothills, but it's since been turned over to developers who have built million dollar+ homes on the tract of land that it was part of. You used to be able to shoot for almost nothing as it was actually being maintained for use by the sheriff's office and the city police, but when they didn't have it reserved, the public was allowed in. They were set-up for both pistols and long guns. Now you have to go to private indoor ranges where they charge an arm and a leg.

The only rifle I have with a scope is the .22 semi-auto I inherited from my dad. The scope is only 1.5X as he was a crack shot but got to were he couldn't see the iron sights any more, but could still see his targets or game. He had an identical scope mounted on his deer rifle, a fully sporterized 30-06 Springfield, which my brother inherited.
