let's take an example.

A person decides they don't believe in Islam any more.

That is fine within secular law and in Western culture.

But Islam treats this as a matter of religion. By tradition, such apostates should be killed. By modern moderate practice, perhaps their marriage is annulled and they lose custody rights to their children.

So, for anyone who insists on the notion that we must respect the boundaries of any religion and must not demand reformation in Islam, what's the right thing to do?

Leave it alone. Accept Sharia. Let the ex-Moslem be killed or stripped of his usual rights?

Or do we protect the individual's right to make their own choice unhindered?

I am with the latter. No buts.

Which requires me to demand the modification or reformation of Islam. I want the sphere of Islam restricted to those matters we Western people consider to be within the scope of religion and no more.

And I think those living in Western societies should accept these things. Because if even individual freedom is something folks are not willing to stand up for, then maybe we are doomed.

But we are not in my view. Once we find our voice.
