Zimbler: re: "Though, I don't see a marked improvement over runBoard."
How hard did you look?
Tags are a hassle on runboard. Try typing some text and setting it to green-bold-italics. The cursor jumps around so you have to re-highlight each time. The selection for green is a pain. And it is not compatible with the codes used on Atomic Bobs. Next, consider that snapits posts each of his messages to a new thread. Think about the steps you have to go through on runboard to move from thread to thread to thread. On IcyBoards, you have this at the bottom of each thread:
Better yet, you can quickly see the newest posts on ALL threads in a single listing through the PORTAL. So you'd see all of snapits' posts in a single stream, like this (where 'The IcyBoards Chat Forum' and 'Black Friday' are two of the many threads that it streams):
Does runboard let forum administrators share tips with each other? Icyboards does. IcyBoards has an option to list all of the new messages. It has another to list all of the current day's messages. Video embedding on runboards appears limited to youtube. On IcyBoards, youtube and other video hosts are supported. Runboard is limited to the following post controls (and notice that things like Bold and Italics are shown twice since you have to both turn them on and turn them off, which is why they're a pain. So Runboard doesn't even have as many controls as you'd first think.)
Now look what comes with IcyBoards:
That's everything runboards has except superscripts and subsccripts - but IcyBoards has left justification, centering, right justification, doublesided justification, strikeout, a BUNCH of fonts, a BUNCH of font sizes, horizontal rules, e-mail insertion, bullets, numbered lists and code. There's more, but I don't even know what the PHP option does.
The bottom line as I see it? IcyBoards is a far more mature, vastly more flexible forum. I'm pretty surprised to read that you don't see a marked improvement. IMO, the NEXT NEWEST and NEXT OLDEST buttons by themselves are enough reason to pick IcyBoards over runboard. Trying to read all of snapits' daily threads is really annoying for me. Not for you? Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months |
