Carson: Database Should Include All Americans and Immigrants, Not Just Muslims

In response to Donald Trump‘s suggestion that the U.S. should “certainly” establish a database for Muslims, Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said such a database should be extended to all Americans, and shouldn’t be used to scrutinize any specific religion or race.
“I think we should have a database on everybody who comes into this country,” Carson said Friday in New Hampshire, adding that the U.S. government should also be keeping a record of Americans who are already here.
Asked to address Trump’s comments from Thursday when the real estate magnate said he would “certainly implement” a database to track Muslims, Carson said everyone should be treated the same way, implying that Muslims should not receive extra scrutiny.
“If we’re just going to pick out a particular group of people based on their religion, based on their race, based on some other thing, that’s setting a pretty dangerous precedent, I believe,” Carson added.
But Carson would not rule out extra scrutiny for certain mosques in the U.S., notably those where “there’s a lot of activity going on that’s radicalizing people,” he said.
