hi tkc,

the caliphate thing is a very specific slice of the legitimacy of ISIS and it is very specifically dependent on control of land. i've read for months that it is this that moves many moslems to believe. i wondered why.

i very much recommend this article as it explains it very persuasively. a bit long but worth the effort. http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2015/03/what-isis-really-wants/384980/

I know CF, that was a little tongue in cheek but I do like the draft as an equalizer and a muffler for the militants. I disagree that without territory the caliphate is kapoot. This is more about minds than land. As you wrote earlier, guns are readily available in the US. ISIS seems intent on infiltration and the refugee problem is an ideal methodology. It's not like we are free of discontents. Nor is most of the world. If it was intentional to create the refugee problem and use it to infiltrate countries w/ insurgents that is genius. So no this isn't as simple as territorial supremacy.
