Retired Army colonel arrested as suspect in deadly hit and run against Colorado trooper

A drunken retired Army colonel hit and killed a Colorado State Patrol trooper along a darkened highway before fleeing the scene, police said.

Trooper Jamie Jursevics was fatally struck Sunday night along Interstate 25 in Castle Rock by Eric Peter Henderson, a Legion of Merit award winner, police said.

Jursevics, 33, was married and had an eight month old daughter.

Veteran Eric Henderson was arrested for allegedly killing a Colorado State Patrol Trooper in a hit and run.
"Really a senseless act that took our trooper's life," Colorado State Patrol Chief Scott Hernandez told KUSA-TV.

Jursevics, who has been a trooper since January 2011, was investigating a minor car wreck Sunday at around 8: 50 p.m. when she was struck, police said in a statement.

Jaimie Jursevics was a new mom who was fatally struck Sunday night.
She died at the scene.
