After pissing off the Russians, now they pissed off the French too.
i think the idea of helping Assad's regime take them out, and out of Syria, is now becoming a reality for all, not just the Russians who could clearly see the perils of letting Syria go to hell without any government control. Killng tne caliphate means reestablishing Assad in the medium term. It is the only way to deprive them of tneir training grounds for terrorists. I also believe that Obama knew that but did not say it publicly because there was no support here without proof that Assad is vital to the death of the caliphate.
There will be lots of developments down the road. Ruqqa must fall and they should no longer have territory, just like Al Queda had in Afghanistan.
I just don't think the Iraqis and the Kurds alone can do it, to go into Syria to clean them out.
There is no doubt, there will never be a caliphate, but terrorism is their game now, and that should be dealt with.

President François Hollande called the terrorist attacks that killed 127 people in Paris on Friday night an “act of war,” and blamed the slaughter on the Islamic State.
“It is an act of war that was committed by a terrorist army, a jihadist army, Daesh, against France,” Mr. Hollande said from the Élysée Palace, using an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State. “It is an act of war that was prepared, organized and planned from abroad, with complicity from the inside, which the investigation will help establish.”
