Ronald D. Landrath, 48, of Jackson is charged with second degree recklessly endangering safety, possession of a short barreled shotgun and two counts of receiving stolen property, all felonies, plus misdemeanor counts of pointing a gun at someone and disorderly conduct with a dangerous weapon.

According to the criminal complaint:

About 2 a.m. Friday, Landrath told his daughter he was borrowing her cellphone because his was broken. A few minutes later he returned to her bedroom, upset over some texts to the girl he had seen on the phone.

Landrath ordered her into the dining room and to text the person to say that she could no longer be friends. As he dictated what to write, Landrath hit the girl in the head, she later told police, before he took a small handgun from a kitchen drawer and pointed it at her. Then he fired a round into the floor and threw a knife toward the girl.

The complaint does not indicate that the girl was hurt by any of the acts.

When police arrived with a search warrant several hours later, Landrath had a blood alcohol content of 0.092, based on a preliminary breath test. He admitted having nearly a dozen firearms, both handguns and long guns. He told police the bullet from the .22 derringer was fired into the floor several days earlier because of a malfunction.

Police found that one shotgun with an illegally-short barrel and another shotgun and a .22 lever-action rifle that a neighbor had reported stolen last year.

Landrath made his initial court appearance Monday. He is free on $2,500 bail.
