As a non-subscriber I couldn't read the article.

Regardless of the politics and his apparently impressive story, you can get the measure of this guy by his broader opinions.

In spite of being a doctor, he's evidently not a strong thinker outside the surgery. What more is there to say? A man whose judgement tells him the pyramids were a granary is obviously not a deep thinker. How hard is it to discover that the pyramids are a pile of rocks with very little space for grain.

You want a guy who can't even figure that out to make momentous decisions? Of course not. He's Chauncy Gardner.

Now that the GOP has walked away from science and its processes, then the field is pretty much open to anyone. It's the unEnlightenment party.

One of the reasons Rome fell was because it was unable to deliver a viable process for replacing its emperors. These are worrying times for the USA. Where is the cream that will rise to the surface of the GOP field?

Is it possible that the US will elect a weaker president than George Bush? Can the US survive poor leadership on repeat?
