Judge Orders Jindal to Reinstate Planned Parenthood Funding

A judge issued a decision Friday requiring Republican presidential candidate and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal to restore reimbursements to Planned Parenthood, hampering the governor's pledge to defund the group.
The injunction prohibits Jindal’s administration from canceling the state’s contract with Planned Parenthood, rejecting the governor’s rationale that the organization should be denied funding over its controversial fetal tissue donation program.
Louisiana became the second state to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood; an Alabama judge issued a similar decision this week to Gov. Robert Bentley, requiring Bentley to restore funding for the organization in his state.
In a statement, president of the national Planned Parenthood Federation Cecile Richards said the organization is pleased with the decision. “We will not stop fighting in Louisiana and across the entire country to ensure that people can get high-quality care from the health care provider they trust, Planned Parenthood,” Richards said.
Jindal’s administration said it will appeal, issuing a statement that reads in part, “we are confident that the court will reverse this ruling.”
