I'd like to see a left of centre party myself. That choice ought to be possible as well. Not that it would be my cup of tea.

I agree. But I am not hopeful.

You'll never get Puritans to dilute their ideals. Such folks are willing to destroy everything rather than submit their principles to bargaining.

Until folks generally admit that one person's ideas of rights and principles are doomed to conflict with those of others, we won't get politicians who compromise.

Self-righteousness is sometimes expressed as religion. Sometimes as politics. It is almost always pernicious.
