I agree. But I am not hopeful.

You'll never get Puritans to dilute their ideals. Such folks are willing to destroy everything rather than submit their principles to bargaining.

Until folks generally admit that one person's ideas of rights and principles are doomed to conflict with those of others, we won't get politicians who compromise.

Self-righteousness is sometimes expressed as religion. Sometimes as politics. It is almost always pernicious.

Yes CF but it's the obstructionism over the past 20+ years that frustrates so many (right,left and centrist). I know "checks & balances." Maybe we just need time to work through this. I'd love to see a centrist 3rd party but as D&O says it ain't gonna happen. Hopefully Ryan can lead his party. If he doesn't do it dang soon the GOP may not occupy the White House for a generation. One would think that posibility itself would influence the right to seek moderation.
