The Department of Justice announced Friday that former IRS official Lois Lerner will not face any charges related to the alleged targeting of conservative groups. Prosecutors said they will close their two-year investigation into claims that the tax agency acted in a politically biased fashion while approving which nonprofit organizations received tax-exempt status.â€œWe found no evidence that any IRS official acted based on political, discriminatory, corrupt, or other inappropriate motives that would support a criminal prosecution,â€ Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzik wrote in a letter to Congress. â€œBased on the evidence developed in this investigation and the recommendation of experienced career prosecutors and supervising attorneys at the department, we are closing our investigation and will not seek any criminal charges.â€
