I'm sorry but Vatican City is an independent country with embassies around the world and the Pope is its dully elected head-of-state. The United States, as well most other countries, have Ambassadors to the Vatican and the Vatican has Ambassadors of their own to those same countries. It might be hard to think of the Vatican as a country being that it comprises only about 110 acres and has a population of less than 900 residents but it is. And while it is true that the Vatican does not have a seat at the UN, they do have permanent observer status there.

...the pope is the head of a religion. Ya can call it a state if you like, but it isn't. As far as the Pope speaking in front of congress I would say that if a coach cannot have prayer with his players before a football game that the pope should not be appearing before congress. Also keeping in line with the separation of church and state I think the supreme court and all other govt entities should be open for business on religious holidays like christmas. (Im being sarcastic here)

...like carson I don't think a muslim should be president, therefore I would not vote for one. On the other hand I wouldn't make it illegal as it would be unconstitutional.
