"Pope should not be allowed to speak in front of congress, nor appear at the whitehouse. Separation and all that."

As for the first part of this, remember it was John Boehner and the Republicans who invited to Pope to address Congress. As for the White House visit, the Pope is technically the leader of an independent nation. To not invite a visiting head-of-state to the White House would be an insult to say nothing of it being a diplomatic blunder.
