If we say that we have not sinned , we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
THIS VERSE is an INDICATOR of how you can know whether someone is really SAVED or not.
Anybody who tells you that they have not sinned is a LIAR, and no liar ever entered into the Kingdom of GOD.
The BIBLE is clear: "For ALL have SINNED and come short of the glory of God"
We were ALL born in sin! "In sin did my mother conceive me"
How so?
Because of ADAM's sin. HIS sin is the curse of the entire human race and is what separates us from GOD.
It is why we must needs to have a SAVIOR who could satisfy the JUSTICE of GOD and the PENALTY of SIN each of us have.
That was done on Calvary's cross by none other than the Son of GOD, who paid that sin price ONCE FOR ALL according to Hebrews chapters 9 and 10.
So, anybody who declares they have never sinned is in direct conflict with what GOD says and GOD is never wrong. ALL truth comes from GOD! HE is TRUTH...
