One more thing. Last season, Wenger brought through Bellerin and Coquelin who turned out to be first team players who cost little more than their salaries. He purchased Gabriel who is first team standard at a bargain price and Sanchez who is one of the best players in the league for a price that is maybe 60% of the price a purchaser would have paid for him this season.

If he says the value-quality proposition wasn't there in this window, I trust him. The players he has are as good as any in the league. They are capable of scoring and capable of defending against anyone.

Arsenal has a cash pile precisely because Wenger doesn't spend money like water. And if the market ever collapses, his prudence will make Arsenal golden.

The team's problem is with injuries.

And of course, the knee-jerk fans who just want Arsenal to spend like Man Utd or Liverpool clearly haven't noticed that spending for its own sake doesn't do what they claim. Witness the quality of performance they usually produce these days.

Ferguson didn't spend like Van Gaal or Rodgers. He built teams that fit his style of play. Added good quality where he could find it. But he never spent like a Galactico.

Wenger is a brave guy to purchase no one other than Cech. But he has a team with enough quality to do extremely well. And the skill to release that quality as part of a team playing the way Arsenal operates.

I am happy with his decision not to waste money. It means that when the next opportunity to buy genuine talent emerges, Arsenal will have deeper pockets to search in. In the meanwhile, there is space for talented younger players to move into. Akpom looks pretty interesting.

Also, love the fact that Piers Morgan is spitting tacks. Wish that guy would shut up. Generally.
