Cactus Flower,

America has many ships in mothballs, why not send them over to house these people?

At least they can be safely housed & feed, until something better is figured out.

And no one country will be forced to absorb the unknown problems they bring with them.

I agree. It is an awful situation. The difficulty is deciding what to do!

On the one hand you have the compassionate argument. We want to save people from hell. Yes, we do!

On the other hand, the trouble is that Islam creates basket case societies and, where immigration is concerned, violent minorities which take offence easily. I don't want my country to end up Islamic because I value our own secular history and culture, which (after millenia of trying) allows many religions and cultures to live alongside one another. So I worry about the harm any kind gesture does to us by introducing more folks from the one religion in which this enlightened ideal fails to work. Based on previous experience.

These problems are the consequences of Islam. It creates these messes. I notice this tidal wave of refugees isn't fleeing to Saudi Arabia. And yet Moslems insist on continuing to believe in the superior virtues of their Koran, in thinking it is righteous to kill apostates, in treating non-Moslems as unequal, in wanting to impose sharia wherever they wind up, in behaving in a despicable way to Jews etc. Go to Britain or France. Large Moslem populations don't absorb. They don't start to say - you know, maybe we should just get along. Let's celebrate the marriage of a Moslem and a Christian. To each their own. Nope. Substantial numbers continue with their sense of grievance and their wish to dominate and their exclusivity and their intolerance.

There has to be a means to limit the damage of a large Moslem population in a secular democracy. We can't just pretend these people make nice in the long run when given the opportunity. They don't. Heck, large numbers of young Western Moslems are stoopid enough to join ISIS. What hope is there that Moslems will believe in the peace between cultures which everyone else wants? What hope is there that only an absolutely tiny minority of Moslems will, in future, have sympathy for Jihadi terrorism? In my view, none. The problem of Islamic violence is everywhere. It derives from Islam. Not oppression. Not colonialism. From the tenets of the religion.

Some folks argue that religion has caused more damage than anything else in the history of man. Well, let's not pretend it is otherwise when dealing with a religion which is causing damage. We have to confront the problem. I don't hate the people. But their beliefs make them a problem.

So there have to be restrictions to protect the rest of us from Moslem minorities, even if one feels pity for the majority of Moslems who are not violent and suffer because of them. Heck, in Western society, you can abandon your religion and try a new one if you see that the one you belong to causes harm.

I'd happily absorb the people of that part of the world who believe something different. Or the children who can be brought up with different beliefs. But the most I would feel comfortable offering to adult Moslem refugees is a temporary and contingent arrangement. I wish it were otherwise. But I cannot pretend the problem is not what it seems.
