At one time in this country, anyone who was more than 1/8 something else, in the eyes of the law, they were not considered as being white. In the case of that 1/8 being African-American, that made that person an octoroon, which to many people was the same as being black. Which of course would have made Warren G. Harding our first 'Black' president.
