The recommended perimeter for a spill (rather than a fire) for this material is only 150 feet.

I assume that is for a non-burning spill? (I think the chemical has a fairly low vapor pressure, doesn't it?)

I was assuming high toxicity of the smoke and vapors from a burning spill. But again, I don't know a thing about this chemical so will shut up now.

Hi D&O,

When the issue is only toxicity, they tend to extend the perimeter downwind. They should do that, I agree.

But Acrylonitrile also has the capacity to polymerize explosively when exposed to heat. Its flash point is only 30°F. I imagine they don't want folks to panic. I believe this is why they have extended the perimeter for a mile in all directions.

The recommended perimeter for a spill (rather than a fire) for this material is only 150 feet.
