The original version of the Pledge of Allegiance, as written by a Baptist minister, did NOT contain any reference to God. He stated at the time that he was ASKED to compose a secular pledge to the flag of the United States and that's what he wrote. He was NOT asked, nor did he ever INTEND, to write a 'national prayer'. It was only after he had died and after his family had resisted several attempts to modify the pledge they were finally coerced, by the Knights of Columbus, to add the words "under God" to the pledge. The rational at the time (remember, this was during the 'Red scare' of the 1950's) was that public officials could use the newly modified pledge to help identify Communists within out midst. You see, everyone knew that all Communists were avowed atheists and no atheist worth his salt would ever utter the word "God" so all we had to do was listen while the pledge was being recited at public meetings and before classes at school, etc, and anyone who skipped saying "under God", well those are the people we needed to watch out for.

This is not a story, this is what people actually felt and believed at the time.

As for the Bible, all of us would be much better off it they stuck to the New Testament and the Gospel according to Matthew. There is nothing there about God or anyone hating homosexuals or for that matter, anyone. And lets not forget, back when the court was hearing the case of 'Loving v. Virginia' the Bible was used in the argument that God never intended people of different races to marry either. And when the ruling came down which overturned anti-miscegenation laws in 16 states, there were people also claiming that this would violate the religious freedom of the people in those states.

Good afternoon Clo.

I for one will no longer be ever be citing the Pledge of Allegiance.

You and all others may do as you please as it is as of the moment still a free, although barely, country.

I notice what once was the KEYSTONE of this pledge is missing and as of the other day when the SCOTUS ruled, it no longer mattered what God thought or recorded.

So my question would be, is this really ONE NATION or has everyone that wants to still be Mexican, or Iranian, or Guatemalan, or wherever they illegally came from, instead of assimilating into society to become Americans, or is more like one continent with a whole bunch of people who want to continue to pretend they still live in the third world cesspool they came from and American Laws be damned?

Lastly, we need to get rid of "UNDER GOD" from that pledge.
It truly is no longer under God.
We make laws and the scotus affirms things that are diametrically opposed to GOD's WORDS so how can we say that we are "ONE", much less a nation under GOD, which means under HIS authority and guidance and protection?

Then again if people ever read history and researched the beginnings and beliefs of the people who came here and why they colonized it, at that time they were a group of people who actually feared with awe GOD and depended upon HIM to provide, protect, and to guide.

THAT is no longer the case. We through GOD out of the school systems and classrooms back in the 60's, and now we nationalized having sex relations with ADAM and STEVE and MARY and KARI, and yet every Bible I read says that GOD HATE HOMOSEXUALITY and calls it SIN and a STENCH unto his nostrils!

SO, we might as well just get rid of that silly pledge of allegiance to the flag thingy because it is bogus and a lie anyway.
Don't you agree?

I mean, come on, anyone who spent ANY time studying scripture knows what GOD says about this and a whole lot of other things, but lets just keep it simple.
After all, I am sure many on this board are much more brilliant than God ever could be. In fact, when you have morons asking about Buddhists, a truly ignorant question because apparently the individual is unfamiliar with First Corinthians, would it not be untrue to say this pledge and a lie to say UNDER GOD???

The hypocrisy is so overwhelming this old jarhead who fought for that FLAG, was in over five battles, who lost half of his platoon just in one, finds it rather repulsive because it simply is not true anymore.

If you disagree, please tell me why or HOW it could possibly be true with respect to what the BIBLE, which is where one finds out what GOD thinks about things, and kindly reconcile these SINS of LUST with how GOD approves of them and cite the Chapter and verse as well please.

Thank you kindly ma'am,

micro
