There will be no actual trial. There will be a prosecutor, a defense for leniency, and the jury to hear both. The crime has been verified, the guilty has admitted it, the jury only have to decide to skewer or not.

If the state decides to go for the death penalty, then there MUST be a trial since only a jury can decide guilt or innocence in a capital case.
