...my heart goes out to these folks but I hope this judge didn't do something that will be considered a violation of this assholes rights and get him turned loose somewhere down the road. If he is convicted the time for victim impact statements is in the sentencing phase, not in pre-trial arraignments.

Raw emotion as victims’ families address Charleston shooting suspect in court
Friday, June 19, 2015 3:40 PM EDT

In an emotional confrontation, relatives of people killed in a shooting at a storied black church directly addressed the suspect in court on Friday, one after another, tearfully offering forgiveness, and hope that he would confess and repent.

“We welcomed you Wednesday night in our Bible study with open arms,” Felicia Sanders, the mother of one of the nine victims, Tywanza Sanders, told the suspect, Dylann Storm Roof.

“You have killed some of the most beautiful people that I know,” said Ms. Sanders, who was in the room when the gunman opened fire, and survived by pretending she was dead. “Every fiber in my body hurts, and I’ll never be the same. Tywanza Sanders was my son, but Tywanza was my hero.”
