"The Germans had not counted on the Russians resisting"

Are you serious? They expected a walk in the park & a big
welcome to Russia i guess!

"The only reason that they did so well is because Hitler had to keep so many troops tied up defending the Atlantic Wall"

400,000 German troops guarding the Atlantic wall v's 3.6 million
German troops that died on the eastern front........

Hitler made the same basic mistake that Napolian had made over a hundred years before him by even invading Russia at all. The Germans had not counted on the Russians resisting as they had not in the first world war and the German high command had not even provided winter coats for the troops they were so cock sure of their invasion plan.

As far as the Russians winning the war. The only reason that they did so well is because Hitler had to keep so many troops tied up defending the Atlantic Wall against the forthcoming invasion that occurred on June 6th, 1944 which Stalin had been pressing the Allies to do for more than a year before it actually occurred.
